Correlation coefficient of live weight and body measurements of extensively reared West African Dwarf goats in south west zone of Nigeria

The study was conducted in Ejigbo Local Government Area of Osun State, a derived savanna zone Nigeria. Body measurements and live weight were assessed 399 West African Dwarf (WAD) goats 194 bucks 205 does. data segregated based on sex age groups to obtain detailed information for characterisation goat the experimental area. measurement values increased significantly (p ≤ 0.05) with both sexes. Mean body ranged from 5.32±0.15 kg 29.63±1.88 bucks, 5.75±0.13 30.29±1.22 Live positively related most parameters. length, heart girth, rump height had highest coefficient correlation across ages. Phenotypic higher male WAD than female. Conclusively, linear are economically important traits animal genetic resources especially small ruminants like goats. Selection increase any two phenotypic variables (live measurements) will result an equal other. Equally, weights, absence adequate records, can be utilized predict that correlated measurements.
